A place for exchanging thoughts, for discussions, a marketplace and a stage, all in one – the Hendon University in London. It has expanded its 'natural resources' to integrate a transparent and subtle technical structure into its existing 1930s buildings. At second sight, the resulting ensemble offers a stunning space made up of light and glass, which evolves its charming possibilities, according to the time of the day and the multiple uses that are now possible.
In only three years, the Hendon University converted its 'Quadrangle' into a communication forum planned by the bpr architects. A forum and meeting point for students of the Middlesex University Business School and the School of Computing Sciences from altogether 123 nations. The roof itself reflects structures from the world famous British Museum.
The transparent staircases complement the design without restricting the space optically. In respect of the material choice they reflect existing structures. An elevator was integrated, very efficiently and optically attractive, to provide easy access to all floors – likewise for handicapped persons.
