The headquarters of the banking foundation Fundación Caixa Galicia, located on the edge of the historic heart of the city of La Coruña, is home to both galleries and a subterranean events hall.
Designed by the English architects Nicholas Grimshaw & Partners, this futuristic building - with its backlit marble and glass façade – unites the buildings of Calle Cantón Grande, one of La Coruña’s premier streets. The structure’s geometric form bridges the different heights of the surrounding buildings and provides an effective optical link between two parallel streets. A glazed panel hangs in front of the main façade, reflecting the traditional Gallerias (glazed balconies) found throughout La Coruña, and is used for holographic projections at night.
Seele products were used extensively throughout the project, including the entire external marble and glass façade, atrium glazing systems, interior glass fire screens (across the entire height of the building), stone cladding in the event hall and the steel construction and glazing of the projection. Bespoke steel and stainless steel glazing systems were used throughout the project.
