Glasstec 21.10.-25.10.2008

The construction of a new office and shopping centre on London’s Paternoster Square, directly adjacent St. Paul’s Cathedral, came with a specific brief - the building façade should both fit with its historic surroundings and reflect its modern function.

By combining concrete, steel and glass elements Architects McCormack Jamieson Prichard, working closely with Seele, successfully met with the noted requirements, with classical strength and contemporary lightness combining to create a façade of particular architectural merit.

The most noticeable features of the 7-storey Paternoster Square Building 1 are the oriel elements made from a glass and aluminium construction. Other attributes include whole glass corners (2nd to 4th floor), unique Curtain Wall Façade (floors 3 and 5 to 7) and ground floor retail glazing, with all facilitating inspiring views over one of the most beautiful baroque churches in the world.
