The Urbis Museum, in Manchester’s Millennium Quarter, was a fundamental part of the re-generation strategy for this famous industrial city. Designed by Ian Simpson Architects Urbis seamlessly blends with the adjacent historic buildings, whilst also greatly enhancing the area with its quite extraordinary aesthetic presence.

The façade system, developed by Seele, once again sets industry standards for the innovative use of steel and glass. The entire façade, comprising over 2000 glazed panels, is self-supporting - with lower elements supporting the weight of the elements above. 

Individual steel and glass elements were prefabricated and transported to site in accordance with a precise logistical plan, with elements then inter-locked into the façade system like bricks. Using this method it was possible to install up to 100m2 of façade each day.
