Glasstec 21.10.-25.10.2008

Chicago architects Murphy & Jahn worked closely with Seele during the expansion of the Cologne/Bonn Airport. The result of this collaboration was a new terminal building that utilises cutting-edge steel and glass cladding technologies to achieve maximum transparency of construction, thus customer friendliness and openness.

This was a project of significant scale, with Seele responsible for the 12,000 m2 fully glazed cable façade and 23,000m2 glass and steel roof construction. The roof system itself evokes parallels with the aviation industry due to its opened wings and the filigree support construction. Similarly the individual roof elements, on average 40 m long and 6.5 m wide, appear to float above the 22 steel tree supports, with all elements combining to make the new Cologne/Bonn Terminal unmistakeable.
